Trinity School was proud to be represented by one of out 6th form students in the Catenians Public Speaking competition. He spoke with great confidence and clarity in a fierce competition involving schools from across the East Midlands on the subject of “self-assurance is 2/3rds of success”.
He presented a clear, confident and coherent argument in an effort that suggests he has a great future in public speaking. Although he did not win he gained an honourable mention for his efforts, and the School is rightly proud of him.
The annual quiz this year was to raise money for patient care in our local hospitals. Over a fiercely competed series of rounds the maths department came from behind to win the Howell Shield for the 3rd year running, with a great score of 105 from 167. In second place was the science department team on 97, with a team from the hospital panto society in third on 96. Mr Howell would like to thank all that came and took part and helped our fundraising event.
The Languages Department would like to thank and congratulate all our Y7 and Y8 who took part in our Foreign Languages Christmas Card and house Competition. We have been impressed by our students’ talents! Well done to all of them it was hard to pick a winner!

On Friday 17th Trinity school hosted a charity talk on the Second World War, as part of our programme of events for Remembrance Day. Our topic this year was “1943: The Reich in Retreat, 23rd October 1942- 4th July 1943”. Starting with the Battles of Stalingrad and El Alamein and across the grey expanse of the Atlantic Axis forces are in retreat. After defeat in Egypt a new front is opened up in West Africa, and Axis forces rush to reinforce the Africa Korps in an effort to stave off defeat. The convoy war comes to its decisive end, while the skies of Germany became increasingly the scene for fierce fighting as the British and Americans try to bomb German industry flat, while in the East the Red army begins to drive back the German forces.
Mr Howell would like to thank all those who attended our fundraising event, and would also like to thank Adkins Bakery for their kind donation towards our chip cobs for the event.
Students and staff have held the annual remembrance day service this year. The service, as usual, was run by Mr Howell, Mr Stevens and a few sixth form students.
One student from every class in the school attended the service, where prayers, poems and passages were read out, a wreath was laid and crosses were placed neatly in the grass by the Emmaus Centre to honour those who have fought and those who have died in war and conflict for this country.
At 11am the whole school stood for a two minutes silence before the last post was played by a bugler.
The class representatives then returned from the service with readings and prayers for each class.
The service this year was even more poignant, considering all the wars and unrest happening around the world.
The trinity wargaming club went on a trip to Warhammer world to play matches against other schools from across the country, including against a different trinity school for the right to be the best trinity. We also got a chance to make and paint models, including some expert tuition on how to improve our painting techniques. Finally, we went round the museum, examining the impressive armies on display.
