Introduction
We study how the British political system works. This includes the role and powers of the Priminister and Government, Parliament, the law, pressure groups and the rights and responsibilities of citizens. We then compare it to the American Political System. We also examine the ideas of Conservatism, socialism, Liberalism and Nationalism a examine why people believe what they believe.

AQA A-Level Politics
We start Year 12 by examining the British Constitution (the rules governing how Britain is run). We follow this up by examining Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Cabinet and the Judiciary. What do they do? What are their powers? We then look at referendums, elections and devolution before examining Britain’s relations with the EU and the role of Political Parties and Pressure Groups.
We follow this up with a comparison of British and US Politics, looking at the US Constitution, President, Congress, the Supreme Court, Civil Rights and US parties and pressure groups. We also examine Political ideologies – the battle for ideas.
Our students study the core ideas of Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism and Nationalism and ask themselves why do people believe what they believe, and how can different political stances be justified.
