VQCreate Music Workshop

On Friday 17 June, students took part in a string quartet composition workshop.

Students have had the opportunity to compose their own string quartet with expert help.  GCSE and A Level students have received mentoring from the Villiers Quartet and from Dr. Elizabeth Kelly, who is Associate Professor of Composition at the University of Nottingham.

Students impressed the experts with their clear narratives, exploring ideas from Greek mythology, relationships and even original video game characters! They learned how to use compositional techniques to express their ideas and it was inspiring to hear these pieces performed live.

The final compositions will be performed live by the Villiers Quartet at the Nottingham Chamber Music Festival on Saturday 16 July at 3pm. The concert will be open to friends, family, and community members to attend in-person.  We hope to see you there!
