Trinity School Show Band
The show band entered their first competition of the season on Sunday 15th June in Bradford.
The Music Revolution contest is the first British Youth Band Association contest of the season and was a good introduction for the younger members who have never experienced a competition before.
There were two other bands in our division and after a fantastic performance we were successful in winning six out of eight captions – colour guard, musical effect, ensemble music, field visual, field wind and field percussion. We also came first in our division.
After an afternoon rehearsing on the school field the previous day, the journey on the coach was full of anticipation for the day ahead. The band has been working hard on a show with the title ‘In the Jungle’ – with music and movement showcasing a journey through Africa. Although it wasn’t predicted, there was a lot of rain on the way to the Horsfall Stadium in Bradford, and the thought of marching on a muddy field was not appealing. Luckily, before we marched on to the field the rain cleared up and the sun came out.
...And Back Again
The journey back, laden with certificates and a trophy, was a high-spirited affair with the members of the band all very proud of what they had achieved and realising that all of the hard work has been worth it. Listening back to the comments from the judges was very pleasing, with many positive comments on our performance.
We cannot rest on our laurels however, as we have another, bigger, competition on June 22nd in Leicester and others to follow in September and October. With a few tweaks to the show we hope to continue our success.
Well Done and Thank You
Well done to all those members involved – you did yourselves proud. Thank you to the members of staff who accompanied the band to Bradford and who help out at rehearsals every week.
