Dear Parents and Carers,
In the academic year 2020/21, Relationships, Sex and Health Education will become statutory in all secondary schools in England. This new subject will build on the non-statutory lessons we have previously taught in RSE.
As a Catholic school, our mission is to support the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all of our pupils, rooted in the wisdom and teaching of the Church. The education of children in human sexuality is an important, precious and privileged responsibility. The Church teaches us that this is very much a partnership with parents, in which parents are the ‘first educators’ of their children on these matters; ultimately, you confer on us the right to co-educate your children with you.
This year we have brought together a comprehensive pastoral support programme that incorporates Relationships, Sex and Health Education, Citizenship and Careers. This is beginning to be rolled out this year, albeit in an adapted way due to our amended timetable, and will be fully implemented as of Easter 2021.
We wish to consult with you, as ‘first educators’ of your children to inform you of the content to be delivered and to assure you of the Catholic ethos behind our presentation of this statutory guidance. We have liaised with the OLoL Multi Academy Trust, the Diocese and local clergy to make sure that our programme is of a high standard and in accordance with Church teachings.
We would like to offer you the opportunity to view the content of our curriculum and to give your views or express any concerns you may have so that we may address them. We are proud to say that we have a long history of support from our parents in these areas and hope that our programme is regarded as relevant, modern and accessible.
Please could I ask you to take some time to view the presentation below. It has a considerable number of slides but you may choose to specifically view those that relate to your child. Afterwards, please could you complete a GoogleForms survey by 15th January 2021, if you wish to respond. The link for this form is on the final slide and can also be found at https://forms.gle/3x686Shd8cnGSGoHA. All feedback is greatly appreciated.
