Awarding of GCSE/ BTEC Grades

Dear student,

Please find your timetable for your ‘Basket C’ assessments to be held in May. These will be your final opportunities to show your knowledge and skills as a mature Year 11 who has reached the end of the teaching and learning period. You will notice that you have only one exam per day, unlike the usual GCSE exams where you could have two on one day.

You must keep this piece of paper safe and make a clear note of when your exams are scheduled. Your teachers will be talking to you about which units/topics could be assessed on these papers. Art will not have an exam; all work will be assessed via portfolio.

All of your exams start in the morning at 10:00am, which means that you must be in school and in the mustering area by 9:45am. You will be told where this is nearer the time. The exams will take place in the Sports Hall.

You have had a timetable of possible ‘drop ins’ and revision sessions posted on the Year 11 notice board in the social area since November last year. You must make use of these opportunities.

A list of final reminders:
• You must be on time for all your examinations. If you use public transport, you must make sure that you allow plenty of time to arrive by 9:45am.
• You must bring all of your own equipment – pens, pencils, rubber, sharpener, ruler, calculator, protractor, etc. Bring more than one pen. Pupils will be expected to write in black ink.
• You are not allowed to use correction fluid such as Tippex.
• Calculator cases must be removed.
• Only clear pencil cases are allowed.
• Water may be taken in but it must be in a clear bottle with no label or any print on the side. No other food or drinks are allowed.
• You must follow the instructions on the front of the exam booklet carefully.
• Possession of a mobile phone, electronic storage device or other unauthorised material is not allowed – even if you do not intend to use it. You will be subject to possible disqualification from the exam/qualification.
• You must not talk to, attempt to communicate with or disturb other candidates once you have entered the examination room.
• You must follow the instructions of the invigilator.
• You must not become involved in any unfair or dishonest practice in any part of the examination.
• If you are confused about anything, only speak to an invigilator.
• Full school uniform applies throughout the exam period. All school rules must be obeyed as normal, with no exceptions.

Afternoon lessons will proceed as normal until 4:05pm. If you have a timetabled lesson in a subject that has already been assessed, you will be allowed to revise for other exams. This means that you must always have revision materials with you.

Your form tutor and progress co-ordinator are available for support throughout this time, should you need it. Good luck with your preparations.

Yours faithfully
