Sixth Form Performance Studies
Music, Dance and Drama
This course includes:
- The study and analysis of different Performance Styles and Practitioners , across all three Arts Forms.
- The development of your own Performance and Devising skills, across all three Arts Forms.
- Creating original Performance work for a range of audiences, across all three Arts Forms.

AS Units
Unit 1: Creating Performance
You will devise and perform a short group piece of Dance, Drama and Music.
You will devise and perform a longer piece combining all three art forms. This will be performed to a community audience.
You will be assessed on...
- Your Performance Skills in the Community Piece.
- A Written Commentary on all your Practical Work.
Unit 2: Performance Contexts 1
You will study in some depth the work one choreographer, one composer and one playwright.
You will learn some repertoire pieces by these Practitioners.
You will be assessed through a Written Exam.
A2 Units
Unit 3: Performance Contexts 2
You will learn about 20th Century American Musicals such as 'West Side Story', 'Sound of Music' and 'Sweeny Todd'.
You will learn some repertoire from these Musicals.
You will be assessed through a Written Exam.
Unit 4: Performance Project
For this unit you will undertake two performance assessments:
- You will perform a piece of repertoire from Unit 2 or Unit 3
- You will devise an extended performance piece in response to a stimulus set by the examining board. This piece must include Dance, Drama and Music.
You will assessed on your practical work by a visiting Examiner from OCR.
Performance Studies is great because you get to Sing, Dance, Act and Play new instruments!
