AS Units
Unit 1: Exploration of Drama and Theatre: COURSEWORK
You will study two plays by contrasting playwrights. You will take the role of an actor and a director in practical workshops and perform to an invited audience of family and friends. Students are also required to produce a portfolio of exploratory notes, watch a live theatre performance and submit a written evaluation.
All your work will for this unit will be marked and assessed by your teacher.
Unit 2: Theatre Text in Performance: EXAMINED PERFORMANCE
You will take part in two assessed performances:
- 1st Performance will be a short monologue or duologue.
- 2nd Performance will be acting in a group play, directed by your teacher.
You will learn lines, develop your character and rehearse your scenes.
If you have an interest in theatre lighting, set, sound, mask or costumes design you may be assessed as a performance support candidate.
You will be marked on your acting skills by a visiting examiner.
A2 Units
Unit 3: Exploration of Dramatic Performance: COURSEWORK
You will work in a group to create an original piece of theatre, starting from a given stimulus or play. You will perform it to an invited audience of family and friends. You will complete a written portfolio and evaluation to accompany your work.
All your work will for this unit will be marked and assessed by your teacher.
Unit 4: Theatre Text in Context: WRITTEN EXAM
You will study a set play and a historical period of theatre.
Section A: How would you direct and rehearse the set play? How would you stage your production?
Section B: How does the original staging of a Shakespeare play compare with the contemporary staging of the same play today?
The notes you make will be used in the 'open-book' written exam.
This unit is assessed by a two and a half hour written exam.
