Trinity Tornados Reach the Final Four!
On 16th March, the U13 boys basketball team made it through to the last four of the Sherwood Youth League.
The team has had an excellent year so far, with the City Schools Championships still to come after Easter. The boys have been competing in the Sherwood Youth League, in the Under 14s competition, against club teams from across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and surrounding areas. This league is highly regarded and has a host of talented young players who represent their clubs, counties and even England.
Trinity are the only school team in any age group in the competition and every game is tough, as you would expect. The boys compete at the youngest age group and have another year left in the group before moving on to Under 16s when they reach Year 10. We are hoping that the team really establishes itself ready for the English Schools Tournament which starts in the Under 14 age category (Year 9).
Dedicated
The boys have been very dedicated, training every Tuesday and playing most Friday nights at the Nottingham Wildcats Arena or at Bilborough College and bringing lots of support with them. Before Christmas the team won all five of its games, placing it in the top division for games after Christmas. The games after Christmas were very tough indeed with lots of games against established and older teams.
Despite the challenges, the boys qualified for the playoffs and on Friday 16th March beat the Cobras team to make it through to the Final Four (Semi Finals). This is a remarkable feat from a young team and they should be very proud of their achievements.
Thank You
The boys would like to thank two of our talented Year 11 basketballers, Alex and Shawn, for helping out the squad in training and coaching the team at fixtures alongside Mr Manderson. They have been a great example to the younger players and their support is much appreciated.
