Sports Day
Trinity held its annual sports day at Harvey Hadden athletics stadium on Wednesday 14th July.
The highlight of the house competition's sporting calendar, the day is a celebration of participation and perseverance as much as of prowess. The four Trinity houses, Arrowsmith, Barlow, Campion and Dalby, jostled for position on the leader board throughout most of the events. However, towards the end of the day, Dalby eventually flexed its muscles and stretched into a comfortable lead, taking the trophy.
Rain had been forecast but we were very lucky as it held off for most of the day. The stand was filled with spectators in the afternoon, all cheering loudly for their house's runners, jumpers and throwers. House captains and staff kept the energy high (with Mrs Powell's hair turning bright blue with excitement), rousing music was played over the speakers and there was non-stop commentary from Mr Wadsley and Mr Caton. There was even a number of impressive mexican waves at one point; it was a fun, fantastic, festival feeling.
The Nicholson Trophy
After twenty three years at Trinity, Mr Nicholson is retiring this year and a trophy has been created in his name. It is presented to the winners of a mixed relay event; three teams, one made up of sprint winners from Years 7 to 10, one made up of sixth formers and the last a staff team, complete an 8 by 50m sprint around the track. Mr Nicholson joined the staff team, in their specially commissioned tee-shirts, for this the first ever Nicholson Trophy race. However, even his pace couldn't overcome the combined might of the day's sprint event winners, and the staff came in second.
The trophy was presented to the winning captain by Mrs Nicholson, who also taught at Trinity for a number of years.

Sixth Form Sports Day
Three years ago the sixth form students were included in sports day and 2010 marked an impressive surge in enthusiasm and participation with many students eager to take part and continue to represent their houses. Most of the standard track and field events are included in their competition, as well as a tug-o-war and 'dizzy' relay - great fun for the spectators.

Well Done and Thank You
Well done to all the students who represented their houses, every point counts! Well done to the spectators as well for cheering on all the competitors and joining in with the positive spirit of the competition.
Many thanks must go to the PE Department for organising and running such a successful event and to all the staff and students who helped during the day.
