National Anti-Bullying Week

The week beginning 16th November was National Anti-Bullying Week.

The focus this year was on cyber bullying. Bullying that takes place online and via mobile phones is on the increase. According to research carried out by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, around 22% of 11 to 16 year olds have been victims of some sort of cyber-bullying.

The national campaign was launched on Friday 13th November by Ed Balls, the Secretary of State for children, schools and families.

During the week at Trinity we also raised awareness of cyber-bullying. Work was done in tutor groups and assemblies to help our students to understand the various forms that cyber-bullying can take and to help equip them to recognise, help prevent and respond to it. In lower school, students are took part in a competition to design an anti-bullying super- hero.

The most striking event was the blue ribbon campaign. We wanted an event that involved the whole school in making a stand against bullying. On Tuesday 17th November, everyone in the school made a blue ribbon. Blue is the colour for anti-bullying.

For the rest of the week, students (including sixth form students), office staff, teaching assistants and teachers wore their ribbons as a whole school community stand against bullying.
