Year 7 Bakewell Trip

On both Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th July 2011, the Trinity School Geography Department took the whole of Year 7 on fieldwork to the Derbyshire settlement of Bakewell, the only town within the Peak District National Park.

Mr Carr explaining something to a group in Bakewell

The pupils learnt about how Bakewell, a honeypot town, with a population of less than five thousand attracts over two million tourists a year! Pupils carried out pedestrian and traffic counts, studied the environment, drew field sketches, observed and recorded the land-use, and plucked up the courage to carry out questionnaires of the public to determine the frequency of their visits.

The weather was very kind to us, being hot and sunny with only a short light shower on the Wednesday afternoon, shortly before the journey home.

Settlements

Over the past half term the pupils have been learning about settlements. The work carried out will form the basis of a series of geography lessons back at school, further developing their knowledge of the topic.
