Allotment Update - May 2009

The allotment has recently had a massive amount of work done to it thanks to the regular Wednesday and Friday group and Mr Kelly's Year 9 groups. All the groups have managed to transform the area from looking uncared for, to a fully productive garden.

The paths have been replenished using chipped bark, the beds have been weeded and vegetables planted. So far we have planted broadbeans, onions, shallots and three different types of potatoes. The apple trees, although small are covered in blossom, which means that we should get a reasonable amount of fruit from them come autumn.

The most exciting thing to happen is the construction of the small greenhouse. We were sent this by Morrisons for the vouchers collected over the winter term. We would like to thank everyone who helped to collect the vouchers as the greenhouse will help us to start off lots of vegetables before we put them in the ground.

We hope to see the beds full and growing in the next month or two.
