Trip to Tate Britain
On Friday 5th November, Year 12 and 13 students visited the Tate Britain in London to view the Turner Prize, Rachel Whiteread and Eadweard Muybridge exhibitions.
Muybridge is renowned for his photos capturing movement of animals and the human figure. He was able to transform our perception of how horses gallop. We were captivated by Fiona Banner's suspended Sea Harrier that transformed a machine into a captive bird.
By consensus of opinion the group think that The Turner prize will be won by Dexter Dalwood paintings that draw upon historical tradition as well as contemporary cultural and political events. Mr Wall thought Angela de la Cruz, whose badly behaved canvases transformed themselves into sculptures, like slapstick comedy, was the most appealing artist of the four that had been nominated this year.
This was a very successful trip, enjoyed by all and will inspire and inform the students' A-Level work.
